Choosing the right kraft paper bag for your needs involves understanding the differences between regular kraft paper bags and 100% recycled kraft paper bags. Each type has there own advantages and limitations. By knowing the difference this will help you determine which is the right bag for you and your business!

Regular Kraft Paper Bags

• Regular kraft paper bags are made from virgin paper fibers, derived directly from wood pulp, resulting in a stronger and more durable bag.

• These bags are ideal for carrying heavier items due to their higher tensile strength, which reduces the risk of tears or breakage.

• They feature a more rich and consistent brown colour, more smooth with a warm appearance enhances their premium feel.

• Regular kraft paper bags handle moisture better than recycled options, they are less likely or take longer to break when in contact with water. (I mean paper shouldn't get wet right! But regular kraft bags will hold up better for longer if they do!

• These bags are generally a little more expensive due to the use of virgin fibers, but we think it's definitely worth the price compared to having your customer walk out with their purchase falling through the bag!

100% Recycled Kraft Paper Bags

• Made from recycled paper fibers, 100% recycled kraft paper bags are less robust compared to regular kraft bags. Having recycled paper fibres means the paper is already weakened, so it aren't as strong and better suited for carry lighter items.

• They are prone to tearing under heavier loads and really don't handle becoming wet at all! They will break far faster.

• Recycled kraft paper bags have a slightly greyish undertone. This colour difference due to the recycled nature of the paper.

• These bags are really don't do well if in contact with water or high humidity.

• Recycled kraft paper bags are typically more affordable. So they are generally cheaper, and is perfect for customers who have generally lighter items.

Making the Right Choice

Consider the Load:
For heavier items or those requiring higher durability, our regular kraft paper bags are the better choice due to their strength and reliability under stress.

Visual and Performance Preferences:
Regular kraft paper bags provide a classic, high-quality appearance with will hold more and handle being wet better, in contrast to the recycled kraft paper bags which have a unique greyish hue and are best for lighter items in drier environments.

Many of you are likely familiar with the recycled kraft paper bags used by supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths. These bags, similar to our 100% recycled kraft bags, are often 100gsm, while ours are sturdier at 120gsm. Despite this, recycled kraft bags generally have lower strength compared to their non-recycled counterparts.  If these bags are overloaded, they can tear or break easily. Some of you probably would have experienced this leaving Coles or Woolies! Especially if they come into contact with moisture, such as from milk or ice cream they seem to fall apart instantly. The water condensation can quickly weaken recycled paper, making it less durable and more susceptible to tearing. This is a inherent with recycled kraft bags due to the paper.

When choosing between recycled and regular kraft paper bags, consider the items you plan to pack. Recycled kraft bags are less ideal for heavier items and those prone to moisture issues. However, they are a cost-effective and eco-friendly option suitable for lighter, drier items. We offer both types of bags to ensure you have the right choice based on strength, appearance, and functionality
